Resolved Question: No call, no show, please help?

hey guys thanks for taking the time to stop and read this but I have a problem. Okay so, im 17, and I dropped out of school in february and just graduated two weeks ago by taking online classes to get my diploma. alright well, I have been looking for a job for a while now and I finally got one. My mom pretty much got it for me, I work at a auto collision repair shop. Since I am not 18 yet I can't work on cars, paint, or anything like that because of insurance policies. Now I love working on cars and stuff and I want to be in the business but all I do is sweep and try to find something to do. I work monday through friday, from 8 in the morning to 5 in the noon. Now this is my first job, ever. And I am working full time. To me, its just too much all at one time. I have only been working there a week and im already miserable. Plus its summer, and I have a life, and me working this much at my young age, is just to much for me. I want a job, but I don't want a FULL TIME one. Ugh I don't know what to do. So tomorrow is Friday and I have to work, but I really don't wanna go because I just don't think I can take another day of just sitting there for nine hours in the blazing hot heat. And since my mom pretty much got me this job, I can't really just quit because I wan't to. so tomorrow I am thinking of just not going. And I don't wanna call the manager because I don't have an excuse and he is a huge dick wad and he will bitch at me for not liking the job. so please, do you have any advice for what I should do? Its only been a week and I am already hating it so much. I don't think I can put up with it all summer. so please, any information would help alot! thanks!  more

Resolved Question: What are possible risks of NOT repairing a wrecked, but drivable car?

I'm writing an article and want to try and include all risks...safety, possible future collisions, rust, etc. Let's assume the auto is paid for and it is legal to keep insurance money paid instead of having auto body work completed. Studies have shown that people are doing this, both legally and illegally and blaming the economy. They are simply using the money for other things and leaving the car in various states of disrepair, from small scratches and dents to crumpled doors that don't open anymore. Please help me add to my list of risks and dangers, both large and small. Thank you. I am asking for risks about the auto, from small to major. Disregard insurance legality, fraud and how the money will be spent. The article is a persuasive article meant to encourage people to repair their cars and not just keep the money. All the rest is irrelevant.  more

Resolved Question: Got my GED, should i go get my High School diploma too?

im 16, and have my GED. I want to go to college for Auto Body/ collision repair. I have some people telling me that a GED is the equivalent to a high school diploma. Some are telling me that its equivalent but not appriciated as much. Which is right? Could me only getting my GED and going through college result in me ending up underpaid for my job? what about needing high school classes for college, wont i have that problem too? chemistry maybe? cause with auto body it involves mixing of paints and welding.  more

Resolved Question: getting ahead by taking summer school courses?

okay, my school district requires students to earn a certain amount of "credits" in order to graduate (I think most high schools work like that, though)-you can graduate by earning either 22, 26, or 30 credits (I'm on the 22 credit plan because I failed algebra I freshman year and 1st semester of sophomore year) I was thinking of taking summer school courses to get ahead and lessen the amount of class periods I would have senior year-I'm okay with spending my summer doing this because it's this or I sit at home for 3 months while my parents devote their time to remodeling the house they just bought there's 2 options for earning credits during the summer-either to make up for classes you failed, to get ahead, or for enrichment Summer School-you take a course and earn a 1/2 credit for the class if you finish with a 70 average or higher-you can earn a whole credit for the class by taking both the semester-1 material and semester-2 material classes (you can take 4 classes total, equaling 2 whole credits) Credit By Exam-you take a 100 question test and get a 1/2 credit if you score a 70 or higher on the test-you can take 8 tests total, equaling 4 whole credits Here was what I wanted to take- English 3 (ss) Social Studies 3 (ss) Spanish 1 (cbe) Spanish 2 (cbe) Art (cbe) Business Computer Information Systems (cbe) My sister told me I shouldn't take English 3 or Social Studies 3 because colleges don't like students taking classes like math and english during summer school in order to get ahead I speak really fluent spanish, and the last 2 classes are required to graduate, but I don't want to spend a year taking either of them because they're both just goof-off classes anyway... WHAT SHOULD I DO?! my counselor is an IDIOT and hasn't gotten back to me even though I signed up to talk to her 2 months ago The reason I want less class periods during senior year is because it will allow me to get a job and save money for college, as well as give me time to figure out where I want to go I'm planning on attending either Wyotech or UTI for Auto Collision & Repair (a course I've been taking during high school since freshman year and will continue taking though senior year because It's something I like), but I want to attend a 2-4 year university as well so I can have a backup plan.  more

Resolved Question: Auto body repair, will the damage ever be fixed?

Long story short, some degenerate assclown dented my car intentionally by burying his size 12 foot on my car's rear left side. The dent was pretty deep, and I managed to pop it back out with my hand, but not entirely. There is also a body line that is now out of whack and there are a few wrinkles. I took it to two shops, and they quoted crap from 500 to 700 dollars. I was amazed. I wasn't in a fucking collision. They said the entire trim piece needs to be taken out (that goes all the way from the taillight to the front top of the car) and repaint it. I was perplexed that they had to repaint it. Can someone educate me on what is even done on a conventional body repair? Would it be more expensive to just replace that entire trim piece? Will my new car every be the same again regardless of how I got about fixing this? I meant to say degenerate a$$clown up top.  more

Resolved Question: legal advice please, I really need some help?

I would love some legal advice. I'm just not sure what the best thing to do is. I have been rear-ended by an uninsured driver. I have logged what happened. Sunday October 12, 2008 I was hit in my VW Jetta going north on I85 by Jennifer Garner, 23 years old, in a black Nissan sentra. The police report states it is her fault and she received citations for improper lane change and following too closely. Wednesday October 15, 2008 I picked up the police report from Gwinnett County around noon. I called Progressive (her listed insurer) and filed a claim early that afternoon. An agent called me about 30 minutes after the claim was filed and informed me that she was not insured at the time of the accident. I called Jennifer at the number listed on the police report around 5:00pm. I told her that Progressive said that there was a lapse in her insurance. She said, yes there was, but that she paid it the day of the accident. I asked if she paid it BEFORE the accident, and she said yes. I told her that they would not come out to do an estimate on my car until she proved that she did have insurance at the time of the accident. She got my number and said that she would call Progressive to straiten things out, and that she would call me right back. I went to work, and when I got off at 9:30pm, she still had not called back. I called her and got the answering machine. I did not leave a message. Five minutes later her dad, Tom Garner, called and told me that Jennifer did not have insurance and he would have to pay for the damages himself. I told him that would be fine. All I want is for my car to be fixed. I told him I suspected the damage to be around $2,000, and if it took longer than a day to fix, I would need a rental car during the time that my car was in the shop. He recommended a mechanic, someone he knew. I told him that I would be going out of town the following day, and would get an estimate the following Monday. I told him I would call him Monday after I got the estimate. Thursday October 16, 2008 I called my insurance, Georgia Mutual, for advice on letting an uninsured motorist pay for damages and a rental car out of pocket. They advised me to give her an opportunity to pay for everything, and if there was any problem, I could still file a claim under my own insurance under collision, but there would be a $500 deductible. I do not have uninsured motorist on my own insurance. She said that if I do file under my own, that the insurance company would go after Jennifer for the amount of money paid to repair all damages, the amount of the deductible, the amount of the rental car, PLUS the dollar amount of the value lost on my vehicle due to the accident. The $500 deductible and value lost to my vehicle would be a check sent to me. I do want to give them the opportunity to pay for everything out of pocket without taking any legal actions. I called around 7pm and left a message for Tom Garner stating that I had an appointment to get an estimate on my car at Volkswagen on Monday, and that I had also spoken with my insurance, and that I would like to do what is in the best interest of both parties, and asked him to please call me back. Monday October 20, 2008 I took my car to Dwight Harrison Volkswagen in Snellville, GA at 2pm for an estimate on the damages from the accident. They gave me a detailed estimate that totaled $1,004.17. Much less than I had anticipated. I called and left a message for Tom Garner around 3pm. I said that I had gotten an estimate from VW, and asked that he please return my phone call. Wednesday October 22, 2008 In an effort to save Tom Garner some money, I took my car to Snellville Auto Collision for a second estimate. The total of that estimate is $840.35. I feel good about Snellville Collision, and would feel okay taking my car there to be fixed. When I had assumed that Jennifer’s insurance was going to pay for everything, I had planned to take my car to VW, and be done with it. Both locations said that the job would take three days. I came home and called three different car rental businesses to find Tom the best deal. I called Triangle, Hertz, and Enterprise. Enterprise has the best price at $175.55 for a three day rental with coverage. I called Tom at 4:15pm and left a message on the machine stating that I had gotten a second estimate that was almost $200 less than the first one, and would be happy to take my car there, and that I had gotten rates on a rental car. I asked him to PLEASE return my call so that we could get something worked out. I would like to get things done as soon as possible. I would like to take my car in on Monday morning (October 27) and get it back Wednesday evening (October 29). If the job takes three days, this will eliminate Tom having to pay for my rental car over the weekend. Thursday, October 23, 2008 I feel I have gone extremely out of my way in order to save Jennifer/Tom Garner as  more

Resolved Question: Total loss and State farm auto insurance?

I had a collision a few weeks before and it is classified as collision damage. I received an estimate at a body shop who initially provided an estimate of $xxxxx/- and said that the insurance company has agreed to pay them and a delivery date was given. Now, things have changed in the middle and the body shop manager tells me a new stories of additional things that went wrong due to collision (all of a sudden) and that the insurance agent after inspection wants to call it a total loss based on this new estimate. My insurance company- State farm wants it to call a total loss which I doubt given the extent of repair it might take for the minor damage in the front fender alone. Now, here are my questions. I now have suspicion on the integrity of the body shop as well the trick palyed in declaring total loss. 1.Can I have a second opinion at a different body shop? Does State farm allow that? 2.If the repair cost is more than the ACV, and if I still wish to keep the car, can I negotiate for the max amount less deductible that State farm is willing to pay the body shop (xx% of the max amount that state farm is willing to pay before declaring total loss) and I take care of the remaining cost? Your input is appreciated. Thanks, NS  more

Resolved Question: Can someone help me understand the car rental laws in Ontario and the rest of Canada?

I have the optional coverage added to my Bank of Montreal MasterCard for car rentals. Full details can be found here. http://www3.bmo.com/mosaik_images/silver_travelprotection_en.pdf It says I must decline the Collision Damage Waiver or Loss Damage Waiver from the Car Rental company. When I ask the car rental agencies for a breakdown of their insurance I never get a straight answer. In summary the benefits are: Coverage Benefits Subject to the terms and conditions, You are covered for: 1. damage to the Rental Car; and 2. theft of the Rental Car or any of its respective parts or accessories; and 3. rental agency charges for valid loss-of-use while the Rental Car is being repaired; and 4. reasonable and customary charges for towing the Rental Car to the nearest available facility. This coverage does not provide any form of third party automobile, property damage or personal injury liability insurance. What exactly does the last line mean? "coverage does not provide any form of third party automobile, property damage or personal injury liability insurance." One person at a car rental company said that the rental company covers everyone for third party damage and liability under their own insurance and the extra insurace is not neccessary as BOM would cover the rental car. When I researched it online, it seems many people think their own car insurance covers them. Is this true? I do not own a car and do not have regular auto coverage. I plan on a renting a lot of cars in the next 6 months and the savings could be significant if I go without the rental agency coverage. But I'm uncertain if I would be responsible for third party damage/liability if I decline the coverage. Can someone help clarify this for me?  more

Resolved Question: Should I attend nightschool to study and get my GED? I'm 16 turning 17 in two months (details inside)

I dropped out last fall because of Social Anxiety. Ive struggled with school my whole life. I failed 6th grade because of the anxiety and dropped out in 7th and 8th grade because of my anxiety. It cripples me when i'm in school because I always used to get bullied because of my weight and how I dressed. I barely have a 6th grade education, but I don't believe it because I can read perfect and write and spell very good. I just dont believe school is the place for me. My parents talked to me about this place to go for "nightschool" with is a GED test preperation site and I believe its also called "adult ED". I dont want to go back next school year and be 17 in ninth grade, and people tell me that I look 20. Going to Adult ED, where the majority will probably be adults.. I would probably fit in LOL! I plan on hopefully getting my GED (if my parents will let me) and then going to college and take up autobody collision repair or auto technician (mechanic). I really love working on cars and stuff. Should I get a GED? I don't see the difference between a Diploma or GED. Is the GED test harder to pass than HS tests or work?  more

Resolved Question: Can I get a free paint job with broad collision coverage?

My car needs a new paint job badly but I don't want to pay for one since they cost so much. My auto body repair shop told me that if I get AAA car insurace with broad collision coverage, I could just scratch up my car and pretend as if someone else did it and they would give the car a new paint job. Do you think this will work and why or have you heard of the idea before? Jeez, relax people. I was just wondering because I'm having trouble believing my repair shop too. And yes, they are a shady group...and no I'm not switching to another one.  more

Voting Question: auto collision center guys, please help...?

hi - i hit a racoon & wrecked the front end of a new mazda 5 on the way home from the dealership. it had 150 miles on it. mazda USA told me as long as all OEM parts were used in the repair and it was done at a mazda collision center, my 3/36 new car warranty would be intact. i told the insurance appraiser several times i wanted only OEM, the collsion center manager, etc. and surprise surprise, they installed an aftermarket "economy" radiator. WHY does this happen? is this common? i deserve to have my vehicle repaired as good as new, and they try to skimp on an important part, thus voiding my manufacturer's warranty, even after i begged them to use OEM parts only. now i am having trouble with the AC (it cycles way too often, indicating a leak). so in the shop it goes. who makes the decision to use the non-OEM part, the insurance adjuster or the collision shop? i need answers, this is frustrating. thanks much for any thoughts. -J  more

Resolved Question: I was in an auto accident where the other driver did not admit fault. How can I get $ for a rental car?

I will need a rental car while my car is being repaired. I am in Washington STATE. Resolved Question: does a automobile lose it's value even after a small paint job?

we puchased a 2005 jaguar x-type vanden plas on ebay, dealer said it was fine, checked out fine on auto check but when we tried to switch insurance companies we were told the car had a $500 claim last year and also a $1,600 collision claim on it. when we brought it back to new york from florida my husband found where it had been repainted on the drivers side quarter panel. we know a jaguar repair can be quite expensive but i feel the dealer should have told us about it. we love the car but do you think we should ask for some money back. the dealer sells on e-bay and i know i can give him bad feedback. what does anyone think. could you please give me your educated opinion. thanks so much!!!!!!!!!! i forgot to mention that our original insurance never mentioned the collision claim when i added the jaguar to our policy. the reason we wanted to switch insurance companies is because we only had 5 days to get the car back to new york state for a picture inspection.  more

Voting Question: For Insurance adjusters and recruiters please answer for me.?

Ok, I have a question ive been dying to ask for years now. I am a looking for a job as an auto adjuster/appraiser. Ive went To a nationally recognized automotive school and took up Auto collision Technology, so basically I Know how to repair/ paint/ and do automotive damage estimating using computers. (sounds like a good candidate for someone who estimates damage right).Well, I see lots of insurance companies who are looking for adjuster trainees and i can't hardly get an interview for nothing. And also(not to knock anyone with a bachelors degree) how come someone who has a bachelor degree in anything has a better chance to get the job, than someone whos used some of the estimating systems like adp and ccc pathways and knows the terminology and parts? At least can someone tell me why, so i can work on getting what i need or anyone else whose looking for this work, because its so frustrating to know u have a skill, a skill you know you would be good at, and someone not give you a chance  more

Resolved Question: Auto collision repair--insurance and estimate questions???!!?

Resolved Question: What are the options to sue Body Shop?

I was involved in a head-on collision caused by a drunk driver with NO insurance. At the time I did not have collision insurance only liability. I was able to contact the "drunk driver" and he agreed to pay for damages. Trying to be flexible I agreed that he take my car to his body shop that he's a client of. The estimate was done and a copy was provided to me. Today, after about a month and 1/2 my dad (professional auto technician) went with me to inspect repairs before the vehicle was released. To my dismay and great dissapointment... the work made was crap. Needless to say, I talked to the the body shop office and they were not responsive at all. I'm so frustrated and regret even being flexible with taking it there vs a shop I know would do the work right. Any advise on how to go about getting a rental and/or suing? What are my options? I need a vehicle for transportation to work...Please HELP. The cost for the damages were close to $4,800 and was paid off. My problem is not having the car released... It's the quality of work...  more

Resolved Question: Car insurance collision claim question?

Story cut short my insurance company sent me to an auto repair place and they charged us $1,700 my insurance pays $1,200 and I pay my deductible. This accident was in Jan. they sent me the check to pay for the damages at the beginning of Feb. and the date to get my car fixed was this week. Now come today they said there is more damages that they did not see on the first visit. Which was rust from the winter weather and now they want to charge me and extra $1,000 - I told them they were crazy I'm not claiming another claim and get charged more on my insurance and the total charges on the repairs was more than my vehicle worth. So I told the my insurance to stop the work I'm not paying. The check was under the repair shop name and I'm supposed send the check back to the insurance. Shouldn't I get the check since I'm the one paying the insurance and I could find some where that will do it for cheaper? Help me with anything thanks The insurance company told me to cancel because they will not pay for extra damages from rust that is getting in the way of the old collision. sorry I left that out. Thats why I called it to a stop.  more

Resolved Question: What's the best way to win an argument with your auto insurance company when they are unwilling to cooperate?

I currently have a collision claim that involves a damaged hood that needs to be replaced. They are trying to tell me that since I took a hail damage claim a few years ago that included the hood that they will not replace the hood this time. I thought the reason that I pay collision AND comprehensive damage insurance was to make sure I was covered in either case, regardless of whether both happened during my ownership of the vehicle. What's even more fishy is that the person dealing with my case at the collision repair shop asked me if I had a hail claim about a year ago and it was more like five years ago. Whether or not the insurance company cut me a check for the hail damage claim five years ago, aren't they just trying to cheat me on this collision claim? I'm ticked, and I just wondered if anybody had any professional advice on the matter. Thanks all. I'm not denying that I did not have the prior hail damage repaired, I'm just troubled by the fact that I have been a loyal customer for my entire driving life and that this hail claim was 5 years ago. I live in a region that gets frequent hail during the spring storm season and in fact, we got nailed with two pretty nasty ones in just the past week. I realize what the insurance company is saying and I realize I don't have much of a leg to stand on in a technical sense. But where does an insurance company decide to show a little good faith to a lifelong customer and meet somewhere in the middle. I realize that I may be fighting a losing battle, but I would just like to see my insurance company live up to its slogan and be there like a good neighbor. Resolved Question: I-CAR certification--Auto collision repair--abridged version of procedure?

I'm in High school. In Skills USA (auto club). in 1st year Auto Collision Repair class. Going to contest in 18 days, then to state contest later, if i get in the top 3 in the state, I get a full-ride to Wyo-Tech. Last year, 16 out of our state participated(i have a decent chance). All i need to do is study like crazy, but I-Car cert. has ~1500 pages to look through, too much too little time to cram that much. Where can I find a shorter manual/procedure guide/something that i can take w/ me to school to read(book?)? Anything? Suggestions if you got 'em.  more

Resolved Question: what two colors should i paint our class's motorcycle?

I'm in an Auto Collision Repair club, our project for contest is to refinish the fenders and the piece of metal cover between the handle bars and adjacent to the seat ( i think its the gas tank cover?); basically, it looks like this w/o the back seat attachment:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Fxstc1998.jpg But anyway, what 2 colors would look good on it? flames, tribal, tear outs, othe designs? Our instructor wants a dark brown and candy root beer...he is the only one. my thoughts are steel blue and black, or olive drab green and black. what do you think would be a good combo? also design?(flames, tribal, tear out, etc)  more

Resolved Question: Thinking of doing some online courses....?

that will give me enough knowledge to go out and get a job without having to go back to college. I went to college during high school and have an Associate's Degree in Collision Repair Technology (auto body) but it's not what I want to do. (It was a free ride all through college paid by my high school so I decided to give it a shot.) I am stuck working at a call center talking on the phone 10hrs a day and want to better myself to make more money and support my son, but not sure which course is going to be the best. Something in the business field, but not sure what. I majored in business in high school until I went to college so I am "ok" with accounting and stuff like that. Any advice?  more

Resolved Question: Auto Collision: Use the insurance or not?

Our car was hit from behind by a tow truck two days ago as I was slowing down for a traffic light. Owner of the towing company wants to pay for the repairs himself instead of making an insurance claim. I don't mind doing that as long as my car is fixed right. I got an initial estimate from a collision repair shop this morning. They said the estimate is tentative as they can't assess the overall damage until they tear down the rear fender. Is it OK to by pass the insurance? Should I have them pay the repair shop directly? Should I get a written agreement from them to pay for the repairs? Are there any gotchas to watch out for?  more

Resolved Question: Collision/auto repair & what are my rights in the state of Georgia?

Well not my rights, but my mother in laws. She was driving and ran off the road and blew out both right tires. It was late at night and she was a few miles from a family members house so she drove the car to their house. The next day she was able to get two tires on the car and drove it home but did say that the car pulled to the left a bit. She wants to take it to be looked at and she is covered by Progressive insurance. Does she have the right to bring it to the repair shop of her choice? (I think the ins co asked for 2 estimates, but will they just pay for the lesser estimate of the 2?) Does she need more than one estimate?(she drives a Lexus and wants to bring it there but the estimate is a few thousand more than the other no name place. shes not sure she wants to come out of pocket for the difference. will she have to?) What are her rights?  more
