Resolved Question: Is it true that if you eat too many green beans, your blood turns white?

My mum said if you eat too many green beans, your blood turns white.. She came home and said she's got green beans, I was like "Woo, Yum!", then she said that we can't eat too much because our blood will turn white and that it happened to her once and she needed treatment...? I don't understand how much 'too much' would be..? I used Google and it says green beans stimulate white blood cells, however they are good for the spleen-pancreas area and I only have part a spleen as I ruptured it and had a part removed... Sort of confused. OK, guys, I'm not stupid, I'm 16... I know there's no white blood, but there's white blood cells, and too much of them isn't exactly good for us. Now green beans stimulate white blood cells, which is bad. My mum wouldn't say something like that to me, I'm not 5!  more

Resolved Question: Wouldn't it be nice to have a dog in every doctor's office to screen for disease?

Mon, Jun 22 05:50 PM Dogs are being trained in Britain as potential life-savers to warn diabetic owners when their blood sugar levels fall to dangerously low levels. Man's best friend already has been shown capable of sniffing out certain cancer cells, and dogs have long been put to work in the hunt for illegal drugs and explosives. Their new front-line role in diabetes care follows recent evidence suggesting a dog's hyper-sensitive nose can detect tiny changes that occur when a person is about to have a hypoglycemic attack. A survey last December by researchers at Queen's University Belfast found 65 percent of 212 people with insulin-dependent diabetes reported that when they had a hypoglycemic episode their pets had reacted by whining, barking, licking or some other display. At the Cancer and Bio-Detection Dogs research centre in Aylesbury, southern England, animal trainers are putting that finding into practice and honing dogs' innate skills. The charity has 17 rescue dogs at various stages of training that will be paired up with diabetic owners, many of them children. "Dogs have been trained to detect certain odours down to parts per trillion, so we are talking tiny, tiny amounts. Their world is really very different to ours," Chief Executive Claire Guest told Reuters TV. The centre was started five years ago by orthopaedic surgeon Dr John Hunt, who wanted to investigate curious anecdotes about dogs pestering their owners repeatedly on parts of their body that were later found to be cancerous. At around the same time, the first hard evidence was being gathered by researchers down the road at Amersham Hospital that dogs could identify bladder cancer from chemicals in urine. The move into diabetes followed the case of Paul Jackson, who told Guest and her team about his dog Tinker who warns him when his sugar levels get too low and he is in danger of collapsing."It's generally licking my face, panting beside me. It depends how far I have gone before he realises," Jackson said. Tinker has now been trained by the Aylesbury centre and is a fully qualified Diabetic Hypo-Alert dog, complete with red jacket to announce himself as a working assistance animal. The centre is continuing work to perfect dogs' ability in spotting signs of cancer. But while dog-lover Guest says it would be nice to have a dog in every doctor's office to screen for disease, ultimately that is not practical. Instead, she hopes the research will lead to the invention of an electronic nose that will mimic a dog's. "At the moment electronic noses are not as advanced as the dogs', they are about 15 years behind. But the work that we are doing and what we are finding out will help scientists advance quickly so that they can use electronic noses to do the same thing," she said. Edit: Bear! You stay away from dogs today...and stairs! : )  more

Resolved Question: Donal MacIntyre and the HeadHunters?

I watched the documentary and I'm still confused. The guy (can't remember if it was marriner or frain) admitted to murdering the PC and macintyre caught it on tape, why was he not sent down for more than 7 years? It makes no sense, he showed no remorse and was laughing about it, they both deserve to rot in their prison cells and yet they are now out and about. Marriner has a book, saying Macintyre was a liar and has "an audience with Marriner" show. It's laughable and so disrespectful to the families of all their victims. Then to make things worse, Donal and his wife have again been attacked by the headhunters. I know he was given protection during the trial, but why did the police not think "ooo when they're released, maybe we should keep an eye on donal because the headhunters aren't going to let this one lie". I mean honestly. Are the police really that stupid when it comes to these animals? And out of interest why oh why hasn't their "website" been closed? http://nominated.homestead.com/MAIN.html It makes me physically sick to think that those animals are recruiting young teenagers to be part of the youth group. It's like watching the Nazi's and Hitler Youth. I posted here, because the attack on Donal and his wife is a current event and I'm pretty sure some members of the football area of Y!A aren't going to take kindly to this.  more

Voting Question: What is chromatin's chemical compositions?

I am interested in the chemical composition of chromatin, can anybody help? For example: The histone has the chemical composition of 3 lysine 4 methyltransferase. But I can't find any articles on the chemical composition of chromatin. I know from Wiki that chromatin is the complex combination of DNA, RNA, and protein that makes up chromosomes. It is found inside the nuclei of eukaryotic cells, and within the nucleoid in prokaryotic cells. And it is divided between heterochromatin (condensed) and euchromatin (extended) forms. The major components of chromatin are DNA and histone proteins. I am only interested in the chemical composition of chromatin, not the DNA functions but the chemical (or trace minerals it contain) types. Ps: Or if chromatin play a part in the Circadian Rhythm, would appreciate the articles as well. Much appreciated. No good Becca, I read cytoskeleton structure already from Max Planck Institute Advanced Publication already.  more

Resolved Question: why would a god judge and punish the objects of his own creation?

and why did he give us these useless body parts VOMERONASAL ORGAN A tiny pit on each side of the septum is lined with nonfunctioning chemoreceptors. They may be all that remains of a once extensive pheromone-detecting ability. EXTRINSIC EAR MUSCLES This trio of muscles most likely made it possible for prehominids to move their ears independently of their heads, as rabbits and dogs do. We still have them, which is why most people can learn to wiggle their ears. WISDOM TEETH Early humans had to chew a lot of plants to get enough calories to survive, making another row of molars helpful. Only about 5 percent of the population has a healthy set of these third molars. NECK RIB A set of cervical ribs—possibly leftovers from the age of reptiles—still appear in less than 1 percent of the population. They often cause nerve and artery problems. THIRD EYELID A common ancestor of birds and mammals may have had a membrane for protecting the eye and sweeping out debris. Humans retain only a tiny fold in the inner corner of the eye. DARWIN’S POINT A small folded point of skin toward the top of each ear is occasionally found in modern humans. It may be a remnant of a larger shape that helped focus distant sounds. SUBCLAVIUS MUSCLE This small muscle stretching under the shoulder from the first rib to the collarbone would be useful if humans still walked on all fours. Some people have one, some have none, and a few have two. PALMARIS MUSCLE This long, narrow muscle runs from the elbow to the wrist and is missing in 11 percent of modern humans. It may once have been important for hanging and climbing. Surgeons harvest it for reconstructive surgery. MALE NIPPLES Lactiferous ducts form well before testosterone causes sex differentiation in a fetus. Men have mammary tissue that can be stimulated to produce milk. ERECTOR PILI Bundles of smooth muscle fibers allow animals to puff up their fur for insulation or to intimidate others. Humans retain this ability (goose bumps are the indicator) but have obviously lost most of the fur. APPENDIX This narrow, muscular tube attached to the large intestine served as a special area to digest cellulose when the human diet consisted more of plant matter than animal protein. It also produces some white blood cells. Annually, more than 300,000 Americans have an appendectomy. BODY HAIR Brows help keep sweat from the eyes, and male facial hair may play a role in sexual selection, but apparently most of the hair left on the human body serves no function. PLANTARIS MUSCLE Often mistaken for a nerve by freshman medical students, the muscle was useful to other primates for grasping with their feet. It has disappeared altogether in 9 percent of the population. THIRTEENTH RIB Our closest cousins, chimpanzees and gorillas, have an extra set of ribs. Most of us have 12, but 8 percent of adults have the extras. MALE UTERUS A remnant of an undeveloped female reproductive organ hangs off the male prostate gland. FIFTH TOE Lesser apes use all their toes for grasping or clinging to branches. Humans need mainly the big toe for balance while walking upright. FEMALE VAS DEFERENS What might become sperm ducts in males become the epoophoron in females, a cluster of useless dead-end tubules near the ovaries. PYRAMIDALIS MUSCLE More than 20 percent of us lack this tiny, triangular pouchlike muscle that attaches to the pubic bone. It may be a relic from pouched marsupials. COCCYX These fused vertebrae are all that’s left of the tail that most mammals still use for balance and communication. Our hominid ancestors lost the need for a tail before they began walking upright. PARANASAL SINUSES The nasal sinuses of our early ancestors may have been lined with odor receptors that gave a heightened sense of smell, which aided survival. No one knows why we retain these perhaps troublesome mucus-lined cavities, except to make the head lighter and to warm and moisten the air we breathe.  more

Resolved Question: Help with my english!!!?

Hello everyone. i m an italian student in mechanic engineering and i ve to do my english examination...i will give you my english text i ve to give to my professor...can you give me any suggestion and grammatical correction??? Please help me...thanks The modern robot industry is addressing itself to develop the vision technology for robot cells in order to increase productivity and open new processes to automation. According to a lot of researches and experts’ opinions, the vision technology will award to robots higher reliability decreasing cost and increasing ease of use. Vision system isn’t new in automotive robotics but, because of its great reliability and low costs, it is gaining greater penetration and there are a lot of possible quality enhancements. In Rick Youngblood and Roberta Nelson Shea’ s ideas, two important character in different automation industries, vision system can be employed in the field of chassis assembling and safety driving. More robots are vision-ready, which allows users to simply plug in a camera. Adil Shafi, president of Shafi, explains that there are only two requirements for a robot to work with vision and to see things randomly in space: we need to be able to talk to the vision sensor, either through a PC or directly to the sensor, and secondly, we need to be able to see that the robot updates its location when it’s given some feedback by vision. Therefore these robots become good to adapt their application to different environments. This is the first pace to a massive adoption, final purpose of an industry which is improving this technology toward cheaper and much more precise and reliable robots. Moreover every industry will give users software of developing and controlling making easier use and giving the user a fundamental autonomy. There are some difference between how vision was before and how vision is developing. Some years ago it use correlation-based pattern matching which relied on light levels, and that was very, sensitive to changes in lighting and appearance. Now algorithms have been improved to find the 3D position and orientation of parts, there are higher levels of integration that are emerging between robots and vision. Vision system can revolutionize especially the welding phase in every vehicle building sector. “They are starting to look towards better weld quality and tracking of welds, logging the quality of the spot-welding and being able to track that to particular vehicles”, Michael DeWitte, sales director for Kuka Robotics, says. The maturation of vision system technology is opening new avenues for industrial robots. In the future we can expect greater integration between robots and vision to combat the darkening economic landscape.  more

Resolved Question: In principle, is it possible to create synthetic food for humans?

Now I'm no biologist or chemist, you can probably tell by what is probably a ridiculous question, but an answer would really be appreciated. All animal life seems to live off living cells for their intake of protein, carbohydrates, sugars and fats, and I understand the body has to break these down further. Is it possible to create synthetic food suitable for humans, by combining elements and without using living cells in any part of the process?  more

Resolved Question: Medical advice needed please?

My boyfriend fainted last week after coming out of the pool, when he came round, he went blue and struggled to breathe. He was given some oxygen by staff at the leisure centre, but then his blood pressure went sky high and he passed out again. He was brought to the local hospital where they did some blood tests, an ECG and x rays. The ECG and Xrays were fine, his blood tests showed that he has a high number of white blood cells, indicating that his body was fighting a virus. So the doc told him he had a virus and prescribed an antibiotic. They couldnt explain the reason for the high blood pressure and for his inability to breath for a short time. I wasnt with him when this happenned. But having spent the weekend with him, I am worried as he is definitely not himself, and he said he feels there is a part of him missing. Is it possible that he suffered a stroke and the docs were unable to detect it? He seems to be in a constant daze and a little confused. He is going to see his owen doctor for a second opinion, I just wanted to see what people thought or if anyone knew of someone that had a similiar experience. I am so worried about him, I want my old happy loving boyfriend back. I really hope this is something that will pass He is generally quite healthy, he swims a few times a week. He does smoke quite a bit as well tho, and likes his coffee...thought this extra info may help. thanks  more

Resolved Question: How can a person be so evil?

One day, out of the blue, my husband of almost three years tells me, "This isn't going to work out." I thought we were very happy. Apparently not. He told me I needed to get my things out of HIS apartment as soon as possible. He even rented me a storage and moved my things into it. (I later found out he ruined my tv when he moved it.) He than got me to sign a paper saying he'd already given me 30 days notice to move out. At this point I am only working part time, with no family to go to, and no savings. I never saw any money. My checks went to his P.O box and he deposited them into a joint account which he paid the bills from. I was then living in a pickup truck that we were making payments on. I then found out that he was dating not one, but TWO 16 year old girls! My husband is 29 years old! Once I found this out he became furious and told me if I didn't return HIS truck to him he would get the police to get it from me. I said ok, go ahead. The police told me since the truck was entirely in his name I had to give it back. He also cancelled my cell phone that day. During the breakup he told me that he hated everything about me. He said he didn't know why he married me and he regretted every minute of it. He said everything he could to hurt me and all the while spoke as if he was stating some commonly known facts. Not like he was angry. Or upset. Just like that was how it was. Towards the end of our marriage, we never had money to go and do anything. I found out it was because he had been spending hundreds of dollars a month on his girlfriends... The day after he threw me out he got a flat screen tv, new couch, all new furniture... I managed to get my mother whom I've never gotten along with to allow me to stay with her for right now. I found the receipts. I now know about all the fun things they are going out and doing and I can't stop thinking about it... The fact that he's sleeping with her right now. That he doesn't care about me at all. Not even a little! HE actually hates ME! He has done all of these horrible terrible things to me and I'm still supposed to function. To go about my day. And not only that! I'm supposed to go out and look for another job! When everyone else in my town is doing the same thing. Even my mother. And while I'm trudging along, barely managing to breathe, I get to run into Nico and his 16 year old girlfriend. Happy and smiling. He can't be hurt. There was nothing I could do to hurt him no matter how hard I tried. All he cared about was removing all traces of me from his life. I went to the police and told them about what I had seen him doing with these girls and they said they would put a detective on him and if he was doing ANYTHING inappropriate that he would go to jail. Well I just saw them together today and he's not in jail. I guess the officer was lying to me. HOW DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS EXIST? I suppose I should have mentioned that I was 16 and he was 25 when we first got together. And this 16 year old girl he is with is MARRIED! That makes her emancipated but I looked it up and in California an emancipated minor can only have sex with her spouse. I am going to try to get a free lawyer or one I can pay back little by little but he... He's so... I can't see him losing at anything. I think if anyone diserves spousal support it's me but Its so hard to find the energy to put into these things. I sent an e-mail to this girl and told her I wasn't mad at her. I said I just want you to know what he has told me about you and about us. I told her that I don't know what he's told you but I want you to know the truth. She wrote me back and said that they were just friends but her husband doesn't care because they are not "commited." And la la la I can think whatever I want. She practically laughed at how hurt I was. She thought this was funny.  more

Resolved Question: what do you think? beginning of my story!?

The cold empty streets lay restful and silent. Leaves danced in the wind and the water on the grass sparkled in the sun light. There was no one around, not a soul to be seen. Then again just because you can’t see them, does not mean that they are not there. Oh no, they are there, lurking behind buildings, staying just out of sight, by the time you are aware of their presence they are gone, quicker than you can blink. Their deep dark penetrating eyes glaring down at you. Watching your every move, just waiting, waiting. Waiting to catch their prey. Once they lock onto someone you are theirs. They will stalk you all night, and you won’t even know they are there until it is too late, until the terrifying retching smell of death, slow and deadly wafts over to you, and by then it is too late. You don’t stand a chance. But there is something else out there, something more terrifying, something more mysterious and deadly that stalks the creatures. Not to eat them, oh no, but to kill them. No one knows for what reason this mystery person does it, but everyone is thankful. There are arguments as to whether this mystery hero is good or bad. But if you ask me, there is more to him. He lurks in the darkness just like them, he never shows his face, and no one, and not even the king knows anything about him. All we know is he kills the creatures that stalk us, leaving us, he never speaks, he never shows his face, and he is gone in a flash. You might catch glimpses of his shadows and feel the air turn cold around you, but no one ever see’s him. He was different from the creatures, he was not human. So what was he? I had so many questions all filling up in my head. There was something about him, something that made me thrive in the night time that made me want to know more. I longed for the excitement of knowing that he is around, knowing that he is watching me. I can almost sense when he is around. I know it is him, I feel it inside of me. There is something there, like a familiar smell or feeling. I know I know it from somewhere, before the creatures began to pick us off one by one, before the only time we could go out was when the sun was up, before we grew scared to go out at night, before our homes became unsafe. Before everything went wrong. The tall dark buildings grew taller and taller above me, reaching higher and higher up to the sky. It was as if they were trying to escape the nightmares that festered in the darkness. Step after step I made my way through the alley, dodging puddles, rubbish mountains, the occasional dead animal. Clenched in my hand was an important letter to one of my dearest friends. I was on my way to her pub now. I stopped dead. The sound of footsteps behind me echoed through the night’s air. I turned to face whoever it was behind me. the moon shone down in the puddle beneath my feet. I almost lost myself looking at it. it was so beautiful. Something caught my eye, there was something moving in the smoke and mist. Something dark and dangerous. I could hear its breathing getting more and more rushed, its heart beat became increased, and its footsteps crunched on the ground. It sent huge chills like electric shocks down my spine, and yet I was not afraid. Part of me almost wanted to see the creature. I wanted to know what it was like to look into its eyes. I have heard hundreds of stories about the creatures, but part of me has always longed for the excitement and thrill of seeing one. I took a step forward. a dark cold shadow swept across my face, and then it was gone. It was him. it was the man that everyone is always talking about. It was the mysterious man that killed all the creatures. I stared deep into the mist. Something was emerging. First I saw its eyes. The light from the moon reflected of off them. They were unlike anything that I had ever seen before. They were not evil, they were lost and scared. I took another step forward. the creature disappeared back into the mist. I reached out my hand. “please it is ok, I don’t want to hurt you.” My hand trembled as I stretched it out and into the mist. Yet I did not pull it back. Every bone in my body, every muscle and every brain cell was telling me to pull my hand out and run. But that was not what my heart was telling me. my heart was telling me to trust myself. I knew this creature meant me no harm, I could sense it. there was something different about this creature. It lurked in the shadows, because it was afraid, not because he was trying to catch someone to eat. I pulled my hand away and sighed. Just as I was about to turn and leave two small round glowing eyes peered out of the mist. They just looked at me. they were not threatening or full of anger and hate. They were sad and lonely. Slowly the creature began to make its way out of the mist and into sight. I gasped in shock. Two small hands reached out at me. the street lamp above me lit up the small hands. They were so small. Resolved Question: Standard electrode potentials?

Below is a list of standard electrode potentials: Cr^2+ + 2e^1 => Cr -0.91V Zn^2+ + 2e^1 => Zn -0.76V Fe^2+ + 2e^1 => Fe -0.44V Cu^+ + e^1 => Cu +0.52V a) Using the electrode potentials above, write an equation for a reaction which would go to completion. b) Usinf the electrode potentials above, write an equation for a reaction which would be an equilibrium, c) Calculate the cell potential for the cell represented by Cr|Cr^2+ || Cu^+|Cu I think I can do part c, is it just 0.52 - (-0.91) = 1.43V? Resolved Question: Would you place an Atheist in a position of political power?

I only ask as I’ve never really considered religion as a factor of any significance when voting, but having watched the US elections, and hearing people talk about Brown and Blair’s religion it obviously plays a part in other peoples considerations. And as seen with the whole Stem Cell fiasco in the US, it has serious potential repercussions. If you wouldn’t vote for an atheist, could you please explain why not?? Considering the ideal of the separation of the Church and the State - and the fact that the US was founded on secular ideals to allow people from Europe to escape religious persecution; I find it odd that the country has allowed religion to pervade its political landscape to such an extent. And in contrast that Britain has its own established church but (I think) is well on its way to becoming a secular state! Just curious as to what people think! Thanks for answering.  more

Resolved Question: Why on Earth do ....?

Definitions have to be so complex in dictionaries? E.g. Organelle - a specialized part of a cell; analogous to an organ; "the first organelle to be identified was the nucleus" Couldn't they have made it more simpler so I didn't have to look up the definition of "analogous" as well? Sorry, this is one of my serious questions.Do dictionary makers deliberately set out to annoy us?  more

Resolved Question: is patriotism the last refuge of a scoundrel?

patriotism does nothing but teach you how to hate people you've never met-- all of a sudden you take pride in accomplishments you had no part in whatsoever... if you're American you'll go "screw the French! , if we hadn't have saved their butts in two World Wars, they'd be speaking' German right now!" And i go, "Oh, was that us?" Was that me and you, we saved the French? Jesus! I know I blacked out a little after that fourth shot of Jägermeister last night, but I don't remember... I know we were going through the Wendy's drive-thru to get one of them burgers that looked so alluring on the commercial, but then we ordered it and realised we had no money, and we had to ditch out before the second window, and those douche bags in line behind us with the bass music probably got our order and we laughed about that. But I don't remember saving' the French. At all! I went through the last ten calls on my cell phone and there's nothing'--incoming or outgoing--to the French, looking' for muscle on a project! I checked my pants, there's no mud stains on the knees from when we were garroting Krauts in the trenches at Verdun. I think "we" didn't do anything but watch sports bloopers while we got hammered. I think "we" should shut the hell up unless your over 90 years old you did nothing worth while in your life to help the french live your own life don't take pride in what other people did ok give themthe thumbs up but don't some how think that just cos they have the same passport as you makes it as if you have lived a worthwhile life  more

Resolved Question: Girls you will understand this?

All hair removal methods have tricked women with their promises of easy, painless removal - The epilady, scissors, razors, Nair and now...the wax. My night began as any other normal weeknight. Come home, fix dinner, play with the kids. I then had the thought that would ring painfully in my mind for the next few hours: "Maybe I should pull the waxing kit out of the medicine cabinet." So I headed to the site of my demise: the bathroom. It was one of those "cold wax" kits. No melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand, they get warm and you peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever else) and you pull the hair right off. No muss, no fuss. How hard can it be? I mean, I'm not a genius, but I am mechanically inclined enough to figure this out. (YA THINK!?!) So I pull one of the thin strips out. Its two strips facing each other stuck together. Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees. ("Cold wax," yeah...right!) I lay the strip across my thigh. Hold the skin around it tight and . . . . . . pull. It works! OK, so it wasn't the best feeling, but it wasn't too bad. I can do this! Hair removal no longer eludes me! I am She-rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of smooth skin extraordinaire. With my next wax strip I move north. After checking on the kids, I sneak back into the bathroom, for the ultimate hair fighting championship. I drop my panties and place one foot on the toilet. Using the same procedure, I apply the wax strip across the right side of my bikini line, covering the right half of my vagina and stretching down to the inside of my butt cheek. (Yes, it was a long strip) I inhale deeply and brace myself.........RRRRIIIPPP!!!! I'm blind!!! Blinded from pain!!!!.... OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!! Vision returning, I notice that I've only managed to pull off half the strip. CRAP!!! Another deep breath and RRIIPP!! Everything is swirly and spotted. I think I may pass out...........must stay conscious...Do I hear crashing drums??? Breathe, breathe...OK, back to normal. I want to see my trophy - a wax covered strip, the one that has caused me so much pain, with my hairy pelt sticking to it. I want to revel in the glory that is my triumph over body hair. I hold up the strip! There's no hair on it. Where is the hair??? WHERE IS THE WAX??? Slowly I ease my head down, foot still perched on the toilet. I see the hair. The hair that should be on the strip. I touch. I am touching wax. CRAP! I run my fingers over the most sensitive part of my body, which is now covered in cold wax and matted hair. Then I make the next BIG mistake.......remember my foot is still propped up on the toilet? I know I need to do something. So I put my foot down. DAMN!!!!!!!! I hear the slamming of a cell door. Vagina? Sealed shut! Butt?? Sealed shut! I penguin walk around the bathroom trying to figure out what to do and think to myself "Please don't let me get the urge to poop. My head may pop off!" What can I do to melt the wax? Hot water!! Hot water melts wax!! I'll run the hottest water I can stand into the bathtub, get in, immerse the wax-covered bits and the wax should melt and I can gently wipe it off, right??? *WRONG!!!!!!!* I get in the tub - the water is slightly hotter than that used to torture prisoners of war or sterilize surgical equipment - I sit. Now, the only thing worse than having your nether regions glued together, is having them glued together and then glued to the bottom of the tub... in scalding hot water. Which, by the way, doesn't melt cold wax. So, now I'm stuck to the bottom of the tub as though I had cement-epoxied myself to the porcelain!! God bless the man who had convinced me a few months ago to have a phone put in the bathroom!!!!! I call my friend, thinking surely she has waxed before and has some secret of how to get me undone. It's a very good conversation starter - "So, my butt and who-ha are glue together to the bottom of the tub!" There is a slight pause. She doesn't know any secret tricks for removal but she does try to hide her laughter from me. She wants to know exactly where the wax is located, "Are we talking cheeks or hole or who-ha?" She's laughing out loud by now.....I can hear her. I give her the rundown and she suggests I call the number on the side of the box. YEAH!!!!! Right!! I should be the joke of someone else's night. While we go through various solutions. I resort to scraping the wax off with a razor . Nothing feels better then to have your girlie goodies covered in hot wax, glued shut, stuck to the tub in super hot water and then dry-shaving the sticky wax off!! By now the brain is not working, dignity has taken a major hike and I'm pretty sure I'm going to need Post-Traumatic Stress counseling fo  more

Resolved Question: How does this for a sound second scene? Should I bother carrying it on?

Before this part of the story, there is a diary bit thing written by the main character Nikki (who is a boy) "Well, this is now where I’m spending the rest of my life… great” Nikki whispered sarcastically to himself as he was dragged into the tall white building that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. He was walked to what looked like a reception room at the front of the building, with a well-built, strong looking middle-aged man on a wooden seat behind the desk. The man had a shaven head and a shaven face. He also had a clean scar on the right side of his face, just below his nose that ran over both his lips, down his neck and down below the collar of his white shirt and a red bruise like mark under his left eye. His legs were up on the desk and his hands were crossed over his stomach. One of the guards cleared his throat to get the man's attention. He suddenly shot to life, sitting up straight; his dark eyes narrow, glaring straight at Nikki. Nikki just let his eyes wander around the room. He thought it might be best not to look at the guy eye-to-eye. “Who’s this?” the man asked the guards with a yawn, Nikki guessed he didn‘t sleep too much as he had dark rings under his eyes and was clearly asleep on the job. The guy looked down at a clipboard on the desk with what looked like a list of names, and possibly some other information on it before the guards could attempt to answer, “Ah I’ve found you, Nicolas Leigh if I’m not mistaken” he tapped the clipboard with his forefinger. Nikki still wasn’t paying much attention. The man’s face went red, “stop daydreaming, lad!” he snapped. Nikki just looked at him and smiled cheekily. “I wasn’t dreaming actually, and it’s more evening than day,” Nikki said calmly, with a grin. The man went an even redder shade of red. “You wouldn’t say that to me if you knew who I was young man! You’d show me respect, as you’d respect your father.” the man looked down at his file at Nikki’s profile, “Ah; I see you didn’t respect your father at all. You’re a twisted young sod, aren’t you Nicolas? And if you knew what was best for you, you wouldn’t dream of cheeking me like that. I warn you now!” as he shouted the man threw spit all over the desk. Nikki smiled craftily. “So who are you then?” Nikki asked, “And why are you more special to all the other big shots I’ve ignored? Hmm? By the way, it‘s Nikki, that’s N-i-k-k-i, not ‘Nicolas’. I‘m fifteen, not bloody fifty like you!” The guards both stepped back as the man glared at Nikki, his eyes narrow slits. He walked around the desk and stared at Nikki face-to-face, there was barely an inch of space between them. “You just call me Sir, okay? That’s all you need to know” he spat in Nikki’s face as he spoke, his tone had softer and quieter but his eyes still glared bright, “and what makes me so ‘special’ is the fact that I control you future. I can have you locked in here for life, just because I don’t like the way you look at me or the fact that I don‘t really like the way you spell your stupid nickname. Or I could have you killed because I hate that stupid grin you have on your face. Okay, Nicolas?” Nikki would have wiped the spit away if his hands weren’t handcuffed behind his back. He just smiled even more. Tormenting this man was fun! “Okay, okay mate. God, say it don’t spray it!” he said cockily. The man grew an even redder shade, a shade that didn’t look humanely possible. He slapped Nikki with such force that Nikki’s face went as red as his own. Nikki blinked hard and doubled back, “you do know it’s illegal to hit kids, right?” “Do you think I really give a crap about what’s illegal kid? No chance. In this place, I’m God. I can do whatever I like” he walked back behind his desk and looking at his clipboard again, quickly scanning through several pages, “you two take Nicolas to cell fourteen, with Hartley” he said directing to the guards, “maybe he’ll tell Nicolas the do’s and don’ts of this institution” Both guards led Nikki out of the room behind the reception, out to the cells with them holding one arm each. Nikki looked around to see boys locked up in cages like wild animals at the zoo, all chattering like monkeys, all gawping at him like he was a steak and they were lions. Resolved Question: How did life begin on Earth?

The 5-part documentary Earth - The Power of the Planet(a brilliant series) explains the birth of our planet from the chance events of 2 planets colliding to form Earth to the planet cooling to help create the oceans, ice, volcano's and the atmosphere and gravity, how there is just the right amount of gravity to hold the atmosphere and not harm life on our planet,to the first supercontinent(Pangea) to the break up into the continents we know today. This series also explains the chance events simple single cell life forms had in order to "evolve" into complex life with such diversity. Now with all that in mind my question is are all of these chance events or are they to scientifically precise?  more

Voting Question: Another crazy thought how did life begin on Earth?

The 5-part documentary Earth - the power of the planet(a brilliant series) explains how it is thought that life, complex life on our planet began from 2 planets colliding to form Earth to how water came to our planet to the atmosphere and gravity, how there is just the right amount of gravity to hold the atmosphere in place without harming life, through to the first continent (Pangea) and how volcano's,ice and the oceans affect the world we live in.It explains how simple single cell life forms had chance events to evolve into complex life. The biggest chance event being the position of Earth in the solar system being the only place for life as we know it to form. Resolved Question: What do you think of this, satanic film?

This was a published on a Catholic website, scary no? Many of our readers are probably familiar with one or all of the “Back to the Future” movies which starred Michael J. Fox. The first movie was released in 1985, and the series became extremely popular. We had a few thoughts about these movies which we wanted to share with our readers. First of all, we should point out that these movies should not be viewed by a Catholic. The main reason is that the plot surrounds a car that can travel through time. A car which can travel through time when it hits a certain speed is almost idolatrous or occultic; for only God is above time. We also find it interesting that in the car (if we recall correctly, from many years ago), there is some kind of three-part system which is the key to time travel. In our opinion, this is probably a devilish substitution for the Holy Trinity. Anyway, the point we really wanted to make concerns the star of the movie, Michael J. Fox. Fox is frequently in the news because he’s one of the most famous advocates of embryonic stem cell research. Embryonic stem cell research involves the destruction of living embryos for scientific purposes and it is therefore mortally sinful. Michael J. Fox supports embryonic stem cell research because he suffers from Parkinson’s Disease. He wrongly thinks this research will help cure him. Fox is a rare sufferer of Parkinson’s Disease in so far as he is not even 50 years old. He has been suffering from the disease since he was 29. Parkinson’s Disease, which involves the breakdown of motor skills, is something that usually afflicts people in old age. Isn’t it interesting that the actor who traveled through time is now suffering the effects of old age as a young man? He wanted to go to the future. We believe this was how God punished him for his part in this evil movie. He wanted to travel through time, and now he is like an old man and he has been so since he was 29! That’s just something we found interesting because Fox is frequently in the news advocating embryonic stem cell research. A similar thing happened to Christopher Reeves, who played “Superman.” Reeves was paralyzed and unable to move. Since the role of “Superman” served as a substitution for Jesus Christ (the only God-man), it’s interesting that in life Christopher Reeves was paralyzed and unable to even walk. The one who purported to fly and leap tall buildings in a single bound couldn’t even walk. Galatians 6:7- “Be not deceived, God is not mocked.  more

Resolved Question: Whats the difference between personality disorder and mentall illness?

My daughter left home to go and live with her father when she was twelve and has recently returned to live with me now aged seventeen. She has had a mild eating disorder bulimia since she was 6 years old on and off and received treatment for that. I found out that she started smoking since the age of twelve when she went to live with her dad and is on at least ten a day and she suffers from asthma. She is a very bright girl but always seems sad and hard done by. Not only is she addicted to smoking but she has a cell phone /mmobile permanently stuck to her ear and watches the sitcom Friends for hours on end.The cell phone compulsion really worries me.She also dresses like a tart day or night and has no style sense. She is a little short for her age and has three boyfriends on the go at the moment.I have not seen a lot of her since she was twelve and now I am faced with all these issues.I have other children and they are well balanced and trouble free. One of her teachers recently called me and he said that my daughter was emotionally disturbed ! My ex husband is /was a compulsive liar and a fantasist and I am wondering is this part genetic or is it treatable any advice appreciated. To Lolly, I did not dump my daughter on my ex husband.I went to court to get custody and won.My husband had previously been sectioned under the mental health act for threatening to kill himself and my kids,my daughter felt sorry for her father and ran away to live with him when he was deemed safe again. When I asked the police for assistance to return my daughter home they said despite the court ruling my daughter had the right to decide where she wanted to live. Her father since married a lesbian/bi sexual partner and my daughter was brought up as a latch key kid.His new wife got fed up with him and they both parted recently.I do not have communication problems with my daughter. My daughter is doing her A levels and is expected to do a degree in mathematics.I want to help her but do not know how !  more

Resolved Question: Could one stupid incident affect my employment possibilities?

Well, I was out having a drink with my uni mates, and they were allowed to go into this bar, but the bouncers didn't let me in. I kept asking them for me to go in after about half an hour, and then the police came and arrested me and I spent the night in a police cell, and I received an £80 fine, which I instantly paid. Now, I weren't being abusive or threatening, I was just a little drunk. But I'm worried that jobs will be able to look at this and reject me based on one incident. I have never been in trouble with the police in my life, and I am in uni, so I've put in loads of effort to try to achieve good things in life. I have a job interview coming to teach primary school children part-time, and I am scared that they can look at this incident and reject me based on the incident of being 'drunk and disorderly'. I did not receive a criminal conviction, but the anxiety that I feel is driving me mad.  more

Resolved Question: Would you eat meat if...?

I was watching a programme this morning about growing cells using other already existing cells. If one day it was possible to eat meat by growing parts of the animal body in a lab (without killing of course) would you eat it. Personally for me the smell and taste is vile so I still wouldn't eat it... I don't look pale. I was raised in a vegetarian culture. I'm not telling anyone to change their diet for me so answer the question or leave me alone ugh....  more

Resolved Question: When I die. Donor Question?

When I die I want everything that can be used of my body to be used, for transplant purposes. I'd also like for all of my eggs (ovary eggs) to be used for egg donation and stem cell research. I have a donor card, do I need more? I don't want my family to be able to say no actually you can't use her for donor parts. I want my wishes to have precidence over theirs. Is a donor card enough. If my family decide they don't want any of me being offered for transplant after I'm gone, will they be able to have the final say? I'm in the UK, I'm 28 years old. I work at a solicitors. They are offering us cheap Wills. Do I need a will to ensure my wishes are met. Or is the donor card enough? dirtbikr6288, I don't believe in ridiculous urban legends. Luli : Thats not true. The NHS would keep me alive as long as my family thought it was hopeful that I could live. Anything less would be malpractice and the NHS can't aford law suits. Its cheaper to let people die from lack of organ donation, those people can't sue. My other half says he'd be ok with the organs, but not the eggs. I want my wishes to overide his. I also don't want him to have a sudden change of heart and not allow any of me to be donated  more

Resolved Question: XL - VBA How can I put a cell reference into a formula without using a variant?

I have acquired a cell reference using an 'ActiveCell.Address'. Now, after removing a dollar sign (with 'Search' & 'Replace'), I want to write the cell reference straight into a formula; and, importantly, not using any variants, send it to a different cell. After fruitless searching, tonight, I am at the point of giving up. Any ideas? Do you think I will need to use a function, here? I don't want the formula to read, when clicking on the cell, like this: =IF(b=0,(0),(1)) But like this: =IF($G1=0,(0),(1)) Why? I need '$G1', as part of the formula in the cell, and NOT a variant, so that I can use 'filldown' in a later procedure - and so that I can have a truly 'dynamic' range! This one's driving me nuts! Thanks for your help, btw (On this question and previous ones - If I didn't get round to mentioning it before!) Mmm... Use selection.replace method in formula? Or concatenate to make a formula? Other things I'm trying - concatenation seemed easy enough but won't turn itself into a formula, unfortunately! Hang on! I think I might have it - concatenate - copy paste as values and activate cell... Huzzah! Anyone know a short cut?  more

Resolved Question: How can I automatically turn and entry into a cell into a set hyperlink that contains the entry?

I have a database in excel that i periodically hand over to a colleague. Part of the database is a column of ID numbers that correspond to invoice page URLs that contain that ID number. eg. 12345 would be for www.blah.com/invoices/12345.abc I need a formula to format the column so when i type in the 5-digit number it automatically turns it into a hyperlink for the invoice. Ideally it should still read "12345" or whatever but be a hyperlink to www.blah.com/invoices/12345.abc I hope this makes sense...  more

Resolved Question: Please, if you are good in relationships problems read it?

There's a lot of question i'd like to ask you. To start it off i'm not english, so sorry in advance for the mistakes :) Anyway, i'll try to tell you what's the problem... I met a boy, at a party, in Jenuary. He noticed me when i arrived and then asked my friends who i was. He is the cousin of a schoolmate of mine, so he easily asked my cell phone number... and, after my permission, he got it. We've sent each other lots of text messages and then we decided to have a date together on s. valentine's day. That day we spent a great afternoon together. The weather was very cold and it was raining, so we decided to stay into the car talking about our lifes. The date ended with a kiss and, before i was leaving the car, he asked me another date. From that time we've seen each other lots of time; during this time he asked me to be his girlfriend... i was (and i am) very attracted and in love, so i decided to accept to be his girlfriend. We've spent lots of great mornings and afternoons togheter, until he called me, after two weeks spent together, telling me that the feelings that he feels are not the same of before. He was starting to cry (because he ain't understand why he changed him mind) so we interrupted the conversation. I was very angry, and when i closed the phone i started to cry. I cryed the day after and after... for something like a week. During this week he sent me text mesages on the phone, asking me what i was doing, just to be friends (i think). But i didn't reply. After this week, i decided to send him a text message, just because i understood that i couldn't go on in this way. And i asked him how he feels now. He wrote me that he feels good, but a part of him always think to me. So I asked him if he would like to try once again. He didn't give me a clear answer, he just told me that he cannot answer, that the question was very hard but he also told me that his feelings to me are still very strong. Since that time we text again like when we were together, but just a little bit less. Now, he asked me to meet him again, to talk and to see what to do. I really can't wait to see him. But if we decide to be engaged once again i don't know what to do, i don't want to make the same mistakes. For example, how should i be when i'll meet him again? I want to know anything, from the "look" to the "behaviour". Do you think i should give him a letter? And if yes, what should i write? (Please don't be superficial) What should i tell him? Tell me everything you think i should do, and please tell me also what do you think about this story. Thank you so much.  more

Resolved Question: Whats the name of this song?

It's a new day, but it all feels old It's a good life, that's what I'm told But everything, it all just feels the same At my high school, it felt more to me Like a jail cell, a penitentiary My time spent there it only made me see That I don't ever wanna be like you I don't wanna do the things you do I'm never gonna hear the words you say And I don't ever wanna, I don't ever wanna be You...don't wanna be just like you What I'm sayin' is this is the anthem throw all your hands up, you, don't wanna be you "Go to college, a university, get a real job," That's what they said to me But I could never live the way they want I'm gonna get by and just do my time, out of step while they all get in line I'm just a minor threat so pay no mind Do you really wanna be like them, do you really wanna be another trend? Do you wanna be part of their crowd? 'Cause I don't ever wanna, No I don't ever wanna be You...don't wanna be just like you What I'm sayin' is this is the anthem throw all your hands up, you, don't wanna be you Shake it once, that's fine Shake it twice, that's okay Shake it three times, you're playin less like them again You...don't wanna be just like you What I'm sayin' is this is the anthem throw all your hands up, Y'all got to feel me, sing if you're with me, you, don't wanna be just like you (be just like you) This is the anthem throw all your hands up, y'all got to feel me, sing if you're with me another loser anthem (Whoa-oh) another loser anthem (Whoa-oh) another loser anthem (Whoa-oh) another loser anthem  more

Resolved Question: Can anyone paraphrase Elegy written in a Country Churchyard by Thomas Gray?

The curfew tolls the knell of parting day, The lowing herd winds slowly o'er the lea, The ploughman homeward plods his weary way, And leaves the world to darkness and to me. Now fades the glimmering landscape on the sight, And all the air a solemn stillness holds, Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight, And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds: Save that from yonder ivy-mantled tower The moping owl does to the moon complain Of such as, wandering near her secret bower, Molest her ancient solitary reign. Beneath those rugged elms, that yew-tree's shade, Where heaves the turf in many a mouldering heap, Each in his narrow cell for ever laid, The rude Forefathers of the hamlet sleep.  more

Resolved Question: Stem cells and The Anunaki Story, Are we on the way to be tomorrow's gods?

Religiously or not. I would like to know your opinion, please read: Stem cells research is a very controversial topic, I address it by considering the facts of our lives. As we make wars, fights, crimes, we destroy lives, lives which already had attachments creating pain and suffering to other people. So the question is whether it is a crime to destroy that which did not yet experience life, it is not the same "life" as experiencing life, or capability to experience life. It would seem a simple answer, if we put aside the fact perhaps the potential life destroyed could have been more beneficial to society than the one spared by the solution. My opinion is that we should not do Nature, but preserve and clean our surroundings. Most people seem not to understand things, like this one: They see a mother cat eating one of her new born babies, we say: Stop her! she is killing it!, while we don't understand that the animal is actually preserving its kind because the baby was perhaps sick. As humans we got more chances to fix those life problems, but not at the expense of loosing what are perhaps better promising lives. We don't need a spare parts depot, but to surround ourselves with the right environment. We don't need to resolve, we need to avoid. So what is your opinion: Are we on the way to be tomorrow's gods?  more
