Buy Laptop Battery Questions and Answers
Open Question: What should I do about this ebay situation?
I started selling on ebay about 4 months ago, and this lady bought a laptop sold as, " parts but did work " needs battery, hard drive, and memory to fully function. She then asks me to ship it to her with no invoice, and a note saying she only payed $20 for it, when in reality she payed $125.00 so I am now confused by why she is going about all this in such a difficult way, and not logical? I told her I could not do that, and scam what she really payed is such a way. She then told me she does it all the time, and it is easy? She then wanted me to write on the shipping box, " books " and I told her I would not make up lies to cover up a transaction. She then told me she is a customer, and wishes to be pleased as one, with having a happy smooth transaction here. I told her that the item has already been shipped out, and she then asked me what the box label read as an item, meaning " books " I said no, it reads HP as it was shipped in it's original box it came in? as I always do, otherwise I would have had to take a road trip, buy a box for it to fit into, and all that extra legwork to do, which I feel was unecessary? Then she say's she is getting in in Florida, but is bringing it to her country with her...can anybody make since of this situation? how would you handle this transaction with her? moreOpen Question: why does my laptop randomly shut off?
i have a gateway laptop about 2 years old. ill be in the middle of doing something like on myspace or watching a movie and it will shut off out of no where. its not over heating because i keep the fan open and its done it when my computer has just turned on and was perfectly cool. i have macafee virus protection and i have NO viruses on my computer. its been doing it for about a year, and it gets quite annoying. i had it do it to me 3 times in a row and i finally gave up on it. sometimes it will go a few weeks without doing it and do it at random. ive checked through my settings and everything looks fine. my battery never dies i keep it plugged in and ive bought plenty of new cords and even the piece itself that hooks into the laptop. i check all the time and it is ALWAYS connected. so its not over heating and its not the cord and not a virus. can someone please help me. moreOpen Question: Networking between a p.c. and wireless laptop.?
I have no computer sense, so if I could get an explanation in dummy terms I would greatly appreciate it =D O.K. so i bought a desktop computer, which i connected to my modem and then connected a router so that i could access internet via my laptop wireless. I want to set up a network so that I can share and transfer files between the two computers but I do not know how to do so without directly connecting the two computers together via the router? It is a real drag pulling out the desk, undoing all the wires ( i twist tied them all together in order to prevent clutter) and connecting my laptop to the router. Plus my battery dies quickly, so unless I haul the power cord and pull out the dog's kennel in order to plug it in I can't get much done. When I open my network on my computer, I can see our desktop. I sign into it with the password and everything but it will not allow me to access files on the desktop and visa versa. Please help! moreOpen Question: Is it ok to leave a MacBook Pro on charge over night?
I recently switched from PC to Apple. And i bought myself a 15" MacBook Pro 500 GB. My old Dell laptop, when i tried to charge it over night the battery wore out over a year, i was charging over night every night. And the battery went flat (I could only boot up with the charger plugged in). I was wondering if this computer is in the same situation or not. moreOpen Question: Is the Dell inspiron 15.6" a good $500 laptop? Or is the price too high?
I've heard some good things and some bad things about it. Is the price too high and is it bad quality? If you buy it in stores, do you still have to pay an extra $30 for colours like you do online? And can you still customize it in stores? (built in webcam, and longer battery life?) moreOpen Question: Which laptop do you recommend? Lenovo Think pad/ Idea Pad series or HP G60t/ HP DV6...?
In the process of buying my first laptop and I'm caught between lenovo & HP. The cost of a Mac is out of the question for now and I won't use my laptop for any graphic designing or media anyway. I've heard mixed reviews about lenovo concerning that they use to be good when IBM had complete ownership, but not they aren't as good. I also have read issues about HP battery life and overheating. I basically need a laptop for overall use. Mainly for schoolwork on the run and minor Photo shop. I'm looking for a laptop between these two companies under 900. All I need that I am looking for in the laptop is a webcam, runs smoothly, no lag/glitches, not windows vista, built in graphic and video card, has lots of battery life, will last long, not too heavy, very portable, and similar to PC use. I'm going to use this when i'm not able to be by my PC. Please recommend me a laptop, include why you think I should buy it, and a possible link. Thanks. xo moreOpen Question: I have a technical problem?
ok, i just bought a new laptop. it's an ASUS Notebook G17 : Republic of Gamers...? Problem: I do not like the blinking lights on the cover of my system, it wastes too much battery life to continue doing it. I need any suggestions. Of course, it's probably some really easy solution that I was so stupid to overlook, but I do need the help... Please get back to me as fast as you can. it makes working really hard due to concentration issues. moreOpen Question: is this laptop worth buying? ($735)?

Was it Vista SP2?
I am currently on my road trip bringing my laptop around. I have two batteries; a 6 cell that came with my Toshiba laptop, and a 12 cell that i bought from Toshiba for my laptop. My 12 cell doesn't seem to hold a reasonable charge anymore. I did notice the performance decreasing under reasonable conditions including usage and age. I recall using it last before the Vista Service Pack 2 update. It must have lasted 4 hours of battery life. Yesterday I used the battery, which was fully charged, it only lasted for 50 minutes. I charged it overnight and tried using it again today. I got the same amount of usage time. My question is that battery gone? Could it have jumped to 4 hours to 50 minutes? Did the service pack update mess something up? Thanks in advance. moreOpen Question: Which laptop should I buy?

Specifically, can a Macbook Pro take the place of my Windows desktop, or do I need to stick with an actual desktop when I switch? I'm headed off to college so a Macbook's portability would be great, but I do a lot of digital artwork at home, and I rarely turn the machine I'm currently using off. If I purchase a Macbook, am I going to be able to keep it plugged in and turned on for three or four days between shutdowns? Would that have negative effects on battery life? I only have funding to buy one or the other. moreOpen Question: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD on GTA San Andreas?

Well, my Dell Inspiron 1501 is busted, and I will have to go and buy another laptop and would really appreciate help in choosing one. First of all, my budget is no higher than 500 dollars. Yes, it's cheap, but this will only be a temporary laptop that will eventually be handed over to my mother, who will use it for simply surfing the net. Basically, I just need it to do the simple things like surfing the net, playing music, watching videos. Also, I'll be using Photoshop. I don't know if that makes much of a difference, but in my last laptop, I could barely multitask without having it freeze. I would love it if it had good batteries. In my old laptop (and I'm to blame), it could barely survive ten minutes before I had to go back and plug it in. Thank you so much. Thank you Nimz, I shall consider it. moreResolved Question: I have windows vista on my new laptop but when my battery gets low it doesnt give me a warning how do i fix it?

I'm planning to buy a new laptop. Please help me choose between the two. Dell M4400 has NVIDIA Quadro and Intel Quad Core, which has superior performance than MBP. On the other hand Mac is a lot reliable (stable, virus free, longer battery life) than Windows (from what I've heard. I haven't used mac). If I ever choose MBP, I still have to use boot camp to use the windows native cad software like solidworks. moreOpen Question: Acer Extensa Laptop Battery Jack Issue...?
SO I bought a universal charger which actually pushed the jack all the way in the computer. the jack is snug where it is and not moving forward. I have not ever taken apart a laptop before but have a step by step guide. I just want to push it back in place. Nothing is broke on it Im sure. Its not loose or anything. Is this a good idea? I know to take the battery out first etc etc. Would this cost more than 100 to have replaced elsewhere? moreOpen Question: Should I sell Fall 2006 Apple macbook or just keep it? here's a little bit about it: 2ghz intel core duo, 2gb ram, 80gb hd, new battery, top and bottom case, lots of programs, very clean. but now it feels kind of slow and the hard drive is very small. i have one more year left of college, so i'm not sure if i should get a new one right now. also, i have an old toshiba laptop that i can use in the mean time. or i can buy a netbook (asus eepc) what do you guys think? Will I be losing money if i sell it right now for around $600 or should i just keep it a couple more years and then when i get a new one use it as a backup? moreOpen Question: Student looking for laptop...?
Hi, I'm a student looking for a laptop, for work, games and all around portability with good battery life. Here are some specs I'm looking for: Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.0 Ghz or greater, Centrino/Centrino 2 platform would be nice RAM: at least 2 GB Graphics: preferably discrete graphics: at least nVidia 256mb Screen: 13-16 inches Weight: no more than 8 lbs. Battery: at least 2 hours, the more the better. Price: ~$1000 I’m also Canadian, so any models that could be easily bought online (manufacturer, TigerDirect, etc) or bought in a store here (ex. Futureshop, BestBuy) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help! moreOpen Question: how do i make laptop accept new battery?

I might get that if my Acer doesn't get fixed. How much would it cost at Best Buy & how good is the battery life, quality of games [I only want Sims 3 & World of Warcraft on mine], & internet speed? Thank you! moreOpen Question: What laptop should I get?
So I am going off to college and my mom doesn't want me taking my computer (desktop) with me so she's telling me to out and buy myself a laptop. Since the laptop will be an expensive investment I want to make sure that I get the most out of every dollar I spend on it. The only problem is, is that I'm somewhat of an idiot when it comes to computers and laptops and I have no idea what some things are, their significance or what they do (ex. I have no idea what an "HDMI video out" is, the difference between memory and video memory, etc). So I am turning to Yahoo Answer users who hopefully know a thing or two more than me. So here are the parameters to what I'm looking for: -price: $500 (I'm willing to spend an extra [MAX] $200, but keep in mind you would have to rip the extra $200 out of my hands) -screen size: I'm not too big on small screens and I really don't care as long as its not small and blurry and whatnot -performance: It has to run really well and smoothly, I have had bad experiences where everything that I touch just seems to run super slow and lags a lot -battery life: I really want one that's going to last for a while, I'm reading my consumer reports magazine and apparently some batteries have a battery life of like 2 hours and it just astounds me that people would invest so much money to have a thing thing that only works for 2 hours, so I'm going to put the bar at around at least 5 hours --webcam: it would be nice if it had one -weight: I don't think I'll care too much about weight, but then again I've never quite owned one so I really wouldn't know where to set the bar, but for now I'm going to leave it pretty much open -speakers: good decent ones, it doesn't have to be super high quality (although, again, it'd be nice) -usb ports: a few would be nice, but not too many I don't think I'll be needing a lot (max maybe about 4?) -disc: kind of a maybe, I'm the sort that wants to be prepared Okay so now for the sticky stuff where I'm not quite sure about what I'm talking about. So from what I know memory is aka RAM and that's what you computer uses for its tasks (sort of? maybe? not really sure) and hard drive is where you actually save all your stuff (please correct me if I'm wrong). So- RAM: 3 or 4 GB (again, I'm a techno-idiot, so I'm not sure if that's enough or too much) Hard drive: 320 GB? (I kind of want a lot especially since I'm going to use this for 4 plus years) I just want overall a really good, smooth running laptop that's reliable and won't confuse and piss me off when it starts acting up. By the way I don't know anything about processors I don't know the difference between a 2GHz Core 2 Duo or a Pentium Dual Core T4200. If it helps I will be using this laptop to do everything basically from playing games on Facebook, listening to music, doing projects, maybe making a few home videos here and there, to maybe even playing the Sims 3 (very unlikely, I don't even have the game, but just to give you an idea). But yeah, emphasis on performance and battery life and its ability to put up with my occasional carelessness. And this is going to sound really stupid, but... I'm not sure what accessories automatically come with a laptop so if I have to buy the laptop a case and any other necessary accessories that might accumulate to a significant cost please factor that into your suggestions. And I'm also hoping that the laptop comes with wi-fi capabilities (I'm not sure if I have to buy it a gadget or if it comes with it's own internal one). Sorry I know this is sort of long. Thank you. ps. If one of you could point me to the direction of a website for computer/laptop/cell phone/technology dummies like myself it would be greatly appreciated, you'll get a gold star in my book. Also a note I want as specific as a model as possible. Not just the brand.... moreOpen Question: Which laptop is better for college & playtime?

I know both are great for everything else & will be great homes to my music collection. I'm *not* buying a desktop for gaming, wish I could, but I just can't have the luxury of both and I hate "netbooks". I am not looking for "brand bias", but rather honest and intelligible opinions. Would it be worth buying a 8-12 cell battery for the HP to extend it's battery life? And is there going to be a huge difference between HP's Nvidia graphics, and the Toshiba's Intel graphics? B/G Wi-fi is compatible with my campus, but is it worth it to have N as well? My budget is 800 including tax. Thank you for reviewing my question(s)! :) moreOpen Question: Can my new netbook handle youtube, facebook, skype, etc?
I recently purchased a Sylvania G netbook (Magni GNET41601XB) off ebay new-in-box for $230 for my wife. The laptop we have now is ancient and has difficulties with youtube (we love to watch videos uploaded by friends) and the battery life is around 10 minutes. We're about to go on a vacation and we wanted something small and light that we can use to browse the internet via wifi. However, it would be nice if it handled other applications such as streaming video and such. The information I've been able to dig up regarding this netbook and youtube streaming videos is sketchy at best. Here are the specifications for the netbooks I bought found on the manufacturers website: Sylvania GNET41601XB :: Features Processor Intel Atom processor Processor Speed (GHz) 1.6 Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Home RAM Memory 1GB Hard Drive Size (GB) 160GB Resolution 1024 x 600 LCD Display (In.) 10.0 Aspect Ratio 16:9 Widescreen Wireless WiFi USB Interface 2.0 With this info, would it be possible to determine if there are any reasons this netbook wouldn't handle streaming video found on YouTube or other programs such as Skype? Recently, both my mother and I splurged and bought two identical HP Compaq nc6120. Now, mine works great, I love the thing. My mother's though, not to much. I myself thought it was a battery problem, but we've only had the computers for two months. I took out the battery and put it back in again, and it then worked. Next morning though, it didn't again. Hey i need some help.. i have a toshiba laptop and my charger blew out on me a few months ago. I bought a new non-toshiba charger, but it is compatible with my model. Hey Y!A. I apologize in advance for the length. I am in desperate need of a laptop. I really want my mom to buy me one, but I don't know how to convince her. Please don't call me a spoiled brat, because I am the farthest thing away from that. I pay for my phone bill every month, if I want anything, I have to pay for it. It just seems unfair. I even have to help to pay for the bills. The current computer I'm using is the family computer. It's a laptop that is literally falling apart. It's crashed 4 times and the battery life is terrible. A few of the keys have fallen off and the hinges are broken. I really need a laptop of my own. I found a really inexpensive good quality laptop. It's called the HP 15.6" G60-231WM Notebook PC. It's only $598 and it has a calculator keypad, integrated webcam, good battery life, and everything else I could ever want in a laptop. If anybody could give me tips or ideas on how to convince my mom in buying this laptop, then that would be great!!!! I'm looking to buy a laptop, but I'm not sure what kind to buy. I'm looking for one to take with me when I travel, so when I'm in a hotel I can watch DVDs in bed. I need quite a bit of hard drive space, and quite a bit of RAM, because I do game, like MapleStory, The Sims 3, and Left4Dead. I don't expect my laptop to run them all. A built in mic/camera would be nice, but not needed. I guess battery life isn't TOO important, because I'll probably have it plugged in most of the time. I was looking into buying a Dell, but someone recommended this Acer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115546 And I'm not sure if I trust Acer over Dell. Has to meet these requirements (see details)?
Has to have: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2 Gb RAM minimum installed, expandable to 4Gb (but I'd like to start with 4Gb if I can) Windows (Vista preferably) A really good graphics card Under 15" (preferably) I'm in Computer Programmer Analyst so I can't have some piece of Junk laptop. When I started I got an LG R500 which the school told me was like the best one I could get...Cost me $2000 with the student discount and It didn't last long before things started failing on it like the web cam, broken hard drive connector, battery port, DVD burner and now the graphics card (which is on the motherboard) is shot too and I'm not putting in the cash to fix it with all the other problem. And LGs service sucks.. when I sent it in for the faulty hard drive connector they fixed it with a PIECE OF TAPE instead of replacing it. I generally know what to look for in a laptop but my main concern is the graphics card, and I pretty much have no idea what to look for in a graphics card. I'm only done 2nd semester and I already shot my graphics card not doing anything too intense, and higher semesters are really intense on the graphics programming side (like we start 3D game programming and Direct X). Literally 50% of the people in 3rd semester I've talked to blew their graphics card in school. So I need one with a really good graphics card, preferably separate to the motherboard so it's a bit easier to replace. I think I'll pretty much need a gaming laptop. My budget is around 2500 canadian, and I'd like a good warranty with it... I don't mind spending a little more for something decent because I'm not buying $2000 junk again. It also needs to have Windows on it because we do things like Windows GUI programming.. which I can't really do on a Mac.. Though I'm open to the idea of a Mac, I'm just concerned that the cost will be too high since the computer is 2299, warranty is 550, and then the cost of a copy of windows on top of that. I've pretty much narrowed it down to either an a Mac (which is better.. Macbook or Macbook Pro? ) or a customized Alienware.. but I'm open to other suggestions. Help> ? @Ramon. I know what I'm talking about here. I'm NOT getting XP. I prefer Vista. My whole school uses Vista anyways so XP won't really do. Please help!?
Hey everyone. My laptop has been giving me some problems lately. For the past few weeks, my laptop would take a little longer than usual to cut on. When I got up to turn my laptop on today, it wouldn't come on. I thought it was the battery, so I put a new one in and even charged it for the right length of time, but it still won't work. When I press the power button, the little power light lights up for about 4 or 5 seconds, thn both it and the battery light stop shining. I've tried 3 different batteries and charging it, but nothing is helping. Has anyone else had this problem before? And if you have, what did you do? Could it be repaired, or did you have to buy a whole new laptop? Thanks in advance. BTW my laptop is a Dell d600. moreOpen Question: Laptop charger hole.?

For some reason it started melting the plastic surrounding it so i wanna replace it. Help please. moreOpen Question: I need help buying a new laptop for school?
i need something thats under $1100 lightweight nothing higher than screen of 15.6 fast with a pretty long battery life (6-8 hrs) I'm going to be using it for school (notes and papers) and maybe for a bit of personal use im a biomed engineering major, and have intro to bio and engineering, with english and calculus. I've never had to shop for a laptop on my own so i'd appreciate any help i could get moreVoting Question: Recommendations for college PC laptop?
I'm an incoming freshman, undeclared major (looking into International Affairs, so I probs won't need anything special for a laptop). I'm definitely looking into PCs (I've heard plenty of good arguments for Macs, but I just want PC rec's). So what brands should I be looking into? My school said that the only brands they can fix themselves without shipping away are Macs and Dells. I've heard very mixed reviews about Dells, some people saying they're absolute crap and others saying that they're one of the best. My top priorities are disk space and battery life. I have to fit my 30+GB iTunes library on it comfortably, and I was pondering buying Sims 3, which in the past has completely dominated every laptop/desktop that I've put a Sims game on. Someone told my parents to make sure we get something with a lot of RAM space. And I'll be using the laptop in class, hence the battery life. My family has had terrible luck with Toshiba laptops, and the batteries always burn out and have to be replaced. Our first Toshiba has an overheating problem where the fan will go on after a minute and literally sound like a plane is taking off! Another requirement is a webcam for skype-ing with friends/family. I have heard that HP is the best brand. I'm just hesitant because of my school's ability to repair Dells. But then again, I'd rather buy a laptop that won't need to be repaired in the first place. In the Best Buy ad last week, there was a special to buy an HP laptop with a netbook. Would this be worth it? Take the netbook to class and leave the laptop in the dorm (since I won't have a desktop)? I'm not sure what size laptop I want, since it has to be portable but I don't want one too small. Sorry for the length of this question... I'm not much of a computer person, so I'm open to any and all PC suggestions! Thanks for all the PC suggestions! I'll be looking further into all of them tonight! It's greatly appreciated :) And please, no more Mac suggestions. I'm just trying to be honest... I'm not going to buy one, so please don't waste your time trying to convince me! moreVoting Question: What is the best laptop to buy?
under $1000 500gb 4g memory long battery life(6-8 hours) moreVoting Question: Laptop Suggestions for University?
I'm starting university in September and I would like to get a laptop. I know practically nothing about computers, so I figured I'd ask for some help. I want a laptop that is reasonably priced. Around 15 inches is a perfect size. It should be thin and lightweight. I want it to have DVD/CD ROM drive (I think that's what it's called). If it came with a webcam, that would be nice. I don't know what this means, but one of my friends told me to get an "N" over a "G" with regards to wireless internet I believe? One that has a long battery life. It should have tons of memory and a decent graphics card. And one of my friends told me to get one that is compatible with many different types of printers and accessories. so I'm not limited to just one certain brand or anything, My dad also wants me to get one with security features. One that looks pretty would be nice too, but that's at the very end of the list. Lol! I've heard good things about HP laptops (especially the Pavillions) but I am on their website and I find it so confusing because I really don't know anything about computers. I just want one that could do all the things I need it to. I really just want a decent laptop that will last me a long time (I want it to last *at least* for the four years of my schooling). I live in Canada, so it has to be one that is available here. I do not like Macs. I've used them before and I know they're great, but I just can't get used to them. I'm more comfortable with a PC. I've been checking websites and flyers for Best Buy and Future Shop, but like I said, because I don't really understand the terminology and stuff, it's hard for me to tell which computer is the best for me. Thank you very much for the help. :) moreVoting Question: where can i buy a HP DV8000 AC Power Input replacement?

And I have and LG Laptop and If I do send it in to get repaired or take it to a repair shop how much will it cost? A year ago, when I bought my laptop, the battery would last 2 hours. Now, the amount of time it lasts varies, but is usually a little over half an hour if I'm lucky. Is there something wrong with the battery itself? Does the laptop need to be repaired/replaced? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. moreVoting Question: What Is The Right Laptop For Me?
im in the market for a new laptop. my current laptop is: a gateway mx6121 (from 2002) intel celeron M 1.50 GHz, and 500 MB of RAM Its missing a henge which makes the screen wobble and is also missing the "N" key. It runs very slow. Battery life is down to about 1 hour if that. What I need from my laptop: I work with photography and graphic arts so im using photo shop(which currently runs painfully slow) a lot and have a ton of space taken up by my pictures. I would like to be able to work smoothly without freezing my computer and not feel like i was bogging it down when i add new photos. I have already bought photo shop for PC so Macs won't do. I also have a large amount of music(not with itunes) and that also freezes from time to time. I would also like to have a large screen and good color balance. Am i better off buying a new laptop? if so what kind? Or is there something i can do to my current one to make it run nice and smoothly? moreBuy Laptop Battery News
