I need some help with this. It all began in September 2006 I started my first year at The Manchester Metropolitan University (Crewe Campus) studying for a Joint Honours Degree in Criminology and Information Communication Technology. After finding out that I passed the entire year in June 2007 I was overwhelmed because I knew that I was one step closer to finishing my degree. However then the second year came around and all first year students are expected to find their own property, in this case me and three other flatmates had found a property developer who was new to the area of Crewe. At this point I was all excited into moving into a house for the very first time with the friends that I knew from the first year, knowing that myself that this was also a big step in my life that I’m part of a tenancy agreement. The landlord that we had chosen basically promised us that the house that we were about to move into would be fully refurbished by the time the September semester started in 2007. You have probably guessed from this that he didn’t stick to his part of the contract. The house was still like a building site. When moving day came about there were still things that were outstanding, we had no hot running water, wardrobes, beds and desks were not assembled and we had to sit on garden furniture in the living room while there was a month wait on the leather settees. Considering that since April 2007 (the month we signed the contract and he took the £200 deposit from each individual) he had all this time to complete this house. I was trying to convince my housemates that he had broken his part of the contract and that we should seek legal advice. When term started the house was still in a state of disrepair and 4 weeks into the semester (technically it was 7 weeks, the contract started on the 1st September). I had just completely had enough; I was more concerned with the state of the house rather than just concentrating on the work itself, I went into a state of depression where I just could not be bothered to go to lectures, I was just confined to my room all the time and when I did attend them I didn’t pay attention to what was been said. So I went to my year tutor and we both came to the joint decision to put my studies on hold and to see how I felt in a year whether I wanted to resume studies. The decision itself was a tough one to make, do I stick it out living in these rubbish conditions or do I leave behind the people that I made friends with from day 1. Around Christmas 2006 I applied to a vacancy for my local police force as every student needs to earn money around the summer period. I was thrilled when I got the job cause I landed my foot in the door with the police force. Anyway when I left university (after getting signed off by my year tutor) my gap year was working back with the police again. Around March-April 2008 I just wanted to get my degree out of the way, so in the end I applied to another university as a transfer student. Sucess I'd been accepted, applied for halls, September time came about moved in, made new friends, handed in all the assignments on time. However I got my grades back in February from the first semester it was sad to say they were a little on the under average side (meaning that I've got to resit them next year). At the end of the day I'm starting to wish that I'd have just stayed in work, because that means just to resit them it's going to cost extra and I'm going to be a year behind my peers. So what do you think that I should do now? add more money to my ever increasing amount of debt that I'm in or just leave now while the debt is quite small returning to a job that I really enjoyed doing. ok, i posted this question earlier and got a mix of replies.. and i dont think i gave a clear explanation 1) My friend applied for a job vacancy whereby the are looking for a load of workers over the summer LARGE LUXUARY BRAND IN LONDON, she has no luxuary brand experiance and got an interview for the next stage.. 2) I applied initially stating ethinic orging "african".. the application is simple -name-address-cv-"equal opportunities" THATS IT 3)I GOT REJECTED 4) I applied again this time simply changing the race to european white..same application and 5) I got accepted--nothing else changed except RACE! 6) I have worked in the brand 4 years ago, for a 1 week work experience, A GREAT 5 DAYS OF WORK! NO PROBLEMS.. my cv is perfect (i doubt they look at the cv-due to the large number they get in) 7) so what could be the reason for my rejection? well im sorry about the typo-s i would apply to a job with typing errors! DUH! however As i said i have more experiance than the girl... the thing is am a great candidate, ive had a good private school education and have great references to back that up im studying for my degree, however they will never know these things if they dont at least pick me. Hi, I'm going to India for a month in the summer with a couple friends, but we have different ideas about planning the trip while there. They've talked a friend that's been before and decided it will be fine not booking anything at all. But I feel that we should at least plan some of the early stuff in advance, if not all. Decide the places we want to go and make sure we go to them all. I've heard that the long distance trains need to be booked weeks in advance etc, and I think it'd be better to book accommodation so we don't have to walk around looking for somewhere to stay, and it makes sure they've got vacancies and we can find the cheapest places/read reviews in advance. Just wondered what people's opinions were, what would you do? Is it better to book some trains & accommodation in advance? Im a full-time student and just about to turn 18. About a month ago i left my job as a part time customer service assistant working in a local shop. I had a "dispute" :p and didnt feel could continue to work there .....anyway I have now been without a job for about 1 and a half months, at the moment I'm ok for money due to SAAS Funding but my course finishes for the summer at the beginning of june and i wont start back until end of august. So that means about 3 months with no cash coming in...unless i find a new job. the area I live is one of the most deprived in the UK!!! there is pretty high unemployment due to lack of jobs and because of this I am finding it really difficult to find any vacancies available, I am considering doing a catologue like avon and even thought about doing mystery shopping lol Can anyone think of any other alternative jobs like the ones i mentioned???
