Resolved Question: There is a foreclosed house on my street. How can I find out more about this house and how much it is?

I live in a nice neighborhood in Austin, TX. A couple of years ago our neighbors 3 houses down the street moved and a large family moved in. I never saw that the house was "for sale" (no signs in the yard, etc) so I wondered at the time what happened. (If anyone knows how the property changed hands in this manner, I'd like to know). The house is a beautiful house, but the new neighbors turned out to be very undesirable and in a short time the exterior was looking shabby (unmowed lawn, no yard care at all, dying plants, vehicles parked everywhere, tires laying around, a broken window or two). I assume the house was foreclosed on a few months ago as the "owners" are now gone and have left behind a legacy of filth and disrepair. Out of curiosity, I peered in a few windows around the house and my bold husband tried the garage a couple days ago and it was open, so we took a quick walk through the place. I was utterly shocked at the level of ruin this place is in. The carpets are destroyed throughout the property, Appliances pulled away from the wall and rusted out, art niches with the sides smashed in, many broken windows, the ceiling above a 2 story stair has water damage and is peeling/open. The place is a nightmare, YET the structure and design of the house is still intact and holds much promise with restoration. It has a large yard with a few trees (still living, unbelievably)...it is full of all kinds of abandoned crap and furniture at the moment. We really like the house but its certainly in no shape to sell. I am wondering what will happen with this house? I guess it must have been up for sale at a trustee auction (sheriff sale) but I don't know. There are no signs in the window as far as a HUD sale or anything like that. There is a lockbox on the door and thats it. How do we find out more about this property? I would imagine it would sell rather cheaply in the condition it is in. Is it possible for it to sit vacant for a long period of time? It has already been vacant this fall. What happens to homes in this state of disrepair? Do the banks attempt to clean/fix them before sale, or sell as is? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!  more

Resolved Question: Are we all living meaningless lives within humanities artificial constructs?

Why do we need to live our lives to the fullest potential? I have done many things and achieved no real sense of satisfaction from them. I've become bored with pleasure and with pain. What does it really matter if you can achieve anything, help somebody else or believe in yourself? Recently I have been trying many new things in the hope of discovering a new desire or something novel that I will find something worth pursuing and ultimately fulfilling. I have worked for many charities as a volunteer; I have studied and practiced religions, finance and the sciences. I have utilized many of these tools and I've also developed good social skills that have helped me get better and better jobs right up to becoming a wealthy director of my own companies. To add to the conditioned social framework I have also engaged in creative pursuits like drawing, music, drama, authoring and sculpture. Now I am not claiming to be the best in any of these pursuits. It's important to me that I've tried them and experienced them for myself in my quest to discover something I'm actually interested in. Something with enough gravity to convince me life has any real meaning. I am 40 now and I've had plenty of stimulation in my life. Everything from sex to drugs to rock and roll. I've engaged in public speaking and also in meditation and yogic breathing. I don't want to do these things any more because they become totally boring in their addictiveness. I've experimented with sex and social relationships extensively and it all leads to boredom in the end. Especially when you're making someone else happy. The outcome of all these experiences I conclude to be pointless, apart from proving I am addicted to selfishness. I still draw a giant blank when I think about my life and everybody else’s. I think other people must be in denial if they think playing a violin, being a celebrity, preaching like a pope or running a country actually has a point in this vast universe. They're all artificial and abstract. The only mean anything to the artificial fabric of humanity. I mean we all engage ourselves in what are essentially meaningless activities for what reason? It only means something to us because we pretend it has. The universe doesn't care about humanity or idea about meaning. Great stars devour and destroy each other all over the universe. If nature wants to eradicate us with something like a huge volcanic eruption or if we do it to ourselves with global warming or GM foods it doesn't really matter. It doesn't matter if you are Mother Teresa, John Travolta, Tiger Woods, Mozart, Einstein or the nobody next door. Legacy ultimately stands for nothing apart from in the artificial minds of human collective memory. Ultimately nothing is fulfilling to anybody because whatever you and your society create will be loved and hated at the same time. Think of everything; population explosion, war, religion, politics, capitalism, consumerism, GM foods, drugs, antibiotics, pesticides, consumerism. It would take 8 planet earths to give everybody the same lifestyle that we have in the developed world and I'm nowhere near happy. The fact that so many people are starving in Africa, India and Indonesia is because they're growing food for us (those with money and power). Also because we're turning their worlds into desert through deforestation and water shortages so they can grow crops to support our artificial way of life; for us to have furniture and fuel for our cars. What a pointless world? Even if everybody had equal access to resources the point of living in the grand universe is still pointless. We are all in this rat run working jobs most of us hate to buy things most of us don't need. It's a living nightmare. So we may amuse ourselves with gadgets and technology other human life gets ignored. So what's the point? Collectively we are doing a pretty good job of destroying the only known environment for our future generations so there's no real purpose to our lives. Even if we did clean up our act for future generations, unimaginable events in the future are bound to wipe us out like the 99.9% of all previous life that existed on Earth that's now extinct. The Sun stops shining one day and we'll all cease to exist. If it's all hopeless then our existence is futile so what's the point. Any advice out there for somebody like me or am I just mad?  more

Voting Question: What to do about this Seinfeld situation with in laws?

My husband and I are refurbishing a 150 year old home that has been in my family's family for over 100 years. We are in the final stages of it now. I recently purchased a beautiful maple farmers table. I love it. It fits the house. Here's the problem: My father-in-law started making us an oak table before I bought mine. He never said anything about it and now he wants us to sell our new table (I don't want to) and take his table. He has mentioned this to my husband on a couple of different occasions. I don't want to hurt his feelings, but I really want the table I bought. Should I keep the new table or suck it up and take the one he made? It won't be nearly as nice. He made one for my husband's 2 sisters and his brother and I think he looks at it as a legacy. A piece of nice furniture that we will always have... something he made for us.... AGHHHHH Unfortunately, there is NO room in my house for two tables of this size. We're talking 96" here. We are downsizing, so I only have one dining room and one family room. No formal anything....  more

Resolved Question: chris benoit?

Chris Benoit achieved legendary status in the ring for his impeccable technical skills and attracted legions of devoted fans. However, his legacy will be forever marred because his violent and controlling nature, not roid rage, ultimately results is the brutal demise of himself and his family. The preconceived notion that this tragedy is a result of roid rage is a theory with many flaws. This was clearly a pre-meditated act perpetrated by Chris Benoit. The timeline of the events clearly supports this theory. Chris ties his wife’s ankles and wrists and then chockes her to death with an electrical cord on Friday. On Saturday, he then slaughters his son by applying a choke hold. There is a substantial time frame between the murders of both subjects. Roid rage is characterized by MD Gary Wadler as a “form of loss of impulse control”. Roid rage of a magnitude so immense that it would drive Chris to bury his wife “six feet under” is behavior that warrants the immediate murder of his son which is not the case. In addition, Chris places bibles beside each of the murdered subjects which is definitely not an indication of roid rage. The placement of the bibles are an outward manifestation of his compassion for both subjects. It appears as if he is calling upon God to protect their souls and bring them to heaven. Another notable observation is that Chris does not place a bible beside himself when he commits suicide which implies that he believes his soul should be raped in the pits of hell for his actions. This clearly demonstrates how Chris is not blinded by roid rage because he is exhibiting behavior that is indicative of lingering guilt within his conscience. Further concrete evidence to support this theory is that Chris text messages his co-workers with unorthodox messages with the intent of leading officials to the crime scene. He discloses his full address and information regarding the entry of his property. “The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open,” wwe.com. In addition, he recites some bible phrases and discusses details regarding his will. This demonstrates how Chris is in a rational frame of mind and that the murders were undoubtedly pre-meditated. Chris’ violent and controlling nature are the rudimentary cause of the demise of himself and his family. One must note that Chris has a predisposition towards violence and a controlling nature. In divorce papers filed in 2003, Chris’ wife requests legal protection from him stating that Chris "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture" tmz.com. In addition, his wife states that she was, "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child" tmz.com. Prior to the tragedy, Chris and his wife had many disputes regarding the rearing, schooling and care of their son Daniel. Daniel had fragile-x syndrome which is an inherited condition characterized by mental retardation and is the most prevalent cause of autism. His wife may have decided to take bold actions (specifics may be revealed in later reports) that Chris did not embrace. Given his predisposition towards violence and his controlling nature, it is plausible that the dominant stance taken by his wife regarding Daniel may have compelled him to eliminate his wife for fear of losing the power struggle. The time interval between the deaths of his wife and son indicate that there is an internal conflict within him as he contemplates whether or not Daniel would be able to rehabilitate from the emotional and mental scars that would be inflicted upon him from losing both parents as Chris knows he will most definitely be imprisoned for murdering his wife. He decides to place his son’s soul in the hands of God rather then permit his son to endure the hardships that surely await. Ultimately, he succumbs to immense guilt and hangs himself. In conclusion, the violent and controlling nature of Chris Benoit ultimately results in his downfall. Roid rage is merely a veil utilized to conceal the inherent darkness of Chris Benoit’s character. Resolved Question: Do liberals really know Bill Clintons legacy?

LEGACY The Clinton legacy is: The first presidential candidate to conduct a photo-op execution during the New Hampshire primary. The first president to be accused of rape (and to refuse to comment on the charge). The first president to franchise the Lincoln bedroom as a means of fundraising. The first president to steal White House furniture Clinton installed a Marxist terrorist in Haiti. Clinton unsuccessfully engaged in nation-building in Somalia at the cost of American lives. Clinton protected Serbian interests in Bosnia when the Croats and Bosnians were kicking their butts with a timely ceasefire. Clinton led the US into its first war of aggression siding with Albanian Marxist terrorists in Kosovo against the Serbs and falsely justified it by claiming the Serbs had murdered 100,000 Albanians. The true figure was closer to 2,000 and was about the same as the Albanians had inflicted on the Serbs in this civil war. Clinton used expensive cruise missles to blow up sheep in Afganistan and kill some innocent civilians and blow up an aspirin factory in the Sudan to distract attention from his impeachment. The first president to kidnap a 6 year old boy from his court-appointed guardians at the behest of a Communist dictator and return him to slavery. Clinton was the first elected president to be impeached. Clinton was the first president, or even human being, to claim that he had a climax but she felt nothing so it wasn't sex.
